On February 6, 2023, earthquakes devastated the Adiyaman region of Turkey, leaving survivors without the most basic necessities. This past September, the PlumeStrong Cycling Challenge raised a record €550,000 with the goal of providing vital educational support to children impacted by the earthquake.
Two months later, the leader of hashtagPlumeStrong, Jasna Mihelj Coustaury, traveled to Adiyaman. Traveling with her was Hafize Gaye Erkan, Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, to meet with Dr. Osman Varol, Governor of the Province of Adiyaman, and Mr. Ali Tosun, Adiyaman Provincial Director of National Education.
Now, together with land provided by the Adiyaman government, and with the cooperation of the Adiyaman education authority – Plume and Hafize Gaye Erkan have signed an agreement to help build a new school for the children of Adiyaman.
“The school will provide an education and coding skills for the children, but our aspirations are bigger,” said Jasna Mihelj Coustaury. “We hope to provide a foundation so that the children, when they grow up, are able to build their lives, find jobs, stay in Adiyaman and revive their community. We want to be able to help the children, their families and the region as a whole.“
