Cable Next-Gen Europe 2023: To 10G & Beyond
Returning for the sixth consecutive year, Cable Next-Gen Europe is a three-hour digital event that will examine how European cable operators, fiber providers, and other broadband players are positioning themselves for the future by developing and deploying next-gen access technologies. Specifically, the symposium will focus on the European broadband industry’s latest moves with DCOSIS 3.1, DOCSIS 4.0, fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP), XCS-PON, Distributed Access Architecture (DAA), spectrum mid-splits and high-splits, network virtualization, Wi-Fi 6, green power, and other new technologies, platforms, and services.
Cable Next-Gen Europe Session 1: Tackling the 10G Challenge – June 21, 2023
12:00 pm BST – Welcome to CNG Europe 2023: All Quiet on the Western Front?: Alan Breznick, Cable/Video Practice Leader, Heavy Reading
Seeking to upgrade their HFC access networks for multi-gigabit broadband, IP video, 5G and convergence services, European cable operators are pursuing advanced versions of DOCSIS over hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) networks and/or advanced versions of PON over fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) lines. But can cablecos keep up with the aggressive fiber rollouts of such rivals as BT, Orange, Deutsche Telekom, and Telefonica? In this overview, we will lay out the competitive context for European cable’s 10G drive.
12:10 pm BST – Service Provider Keynote, Leading European SP Exec: Tino Muders, Architect, Fixed Access Center of Excellence, Vodafone
12:25 pm BST – Platinum Provider Keynote, Leading tech vendor
12:40 pm BST – Panel Session: Tackling the 10G Challenge
With several network upgrade paths now available, European cable operators are starting to pick and choose which paths make the most sense for them. Should they extend their HFC plant further or pivot to FTTP? Should they move up to DOCSIS 4.0 or adopt XGS-PON? Or should they do some combination of both strategies? In this session, we will explore the industry’s network upgrade options and strategies and assess the pros and cons of each one.
