Rocío Lorenzo to succeed John Porter as Telenet CEO

Rocío Lorenzo will become CEO of Telenet on November 2, succeeding John Porter after 13 years at the helm of the Belgian telecoms and media operator.

Lorenzo joins from Cable & Wireless Panamá, where she has served as Executive President and General Manager since January 2024. She will join Ziggo Group’s leadership team and report to its CEO Stephen van Rooyen.

The appointment comes as Telenet and VodafoneZiggo are brought together within Liberty Global’s new Benelux telecommunications group.

Porter, 68, will work with Lorenzo for the remainder of 2026 to support the transition. He said the change was an opportunity to spend more time with his family in Australia while continuing to contribute in other roles.

Since becoming CEO in 2013, Porter has overseen Telenet’s expansion from a Flemish cable operator into a broader telecoms, media and entertainment business. Key developments included the acquisition of BASE Company, the creation of Play Media and the launch of network infrastructure company Wyre.

Lorenzo has been a Senior Vice President at Liberty Latin America since 2021. Before joining the group, she was a Managing Director and Senior Partner at Boston Consulting Group, where her work included advising Telenet on strategic transformation projects and its 2016 acquisition of BASE.

“I have worked closely with her before, when she advised Telenet on some of our most strategic transformations,” said Porter. “I am confident that, building on the strategy we have developed, she will lead Telenet into a strong new phase of growth.”

Van Rooyen said Lorenzo brought more than 20 years of international experience alongside knowledge of the Belgian market.
