Michaela Adami-Schrott
Vice President Marketing Communications Europe - UPC Broadband
Michaela
joined UPC in May 2001 as regional director for chello in Central Europe, based
in Vienna to establish the Internet product and brand of UPC for Austria, Czech
Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. She was transferred to the European
Headquarters of UPC in Amsterdam in 2004 where she was charged to develop the
pan European brand and communication strategy of UPC.
Prior to working for UPC she worked as Vice President for ALPHATHINX,
providing mobile entertainment. From 1997 to 2000 Michaela was the Head of
Marketing for PREMIERE WORLD Pay TV in Austria.
Michaela graduated from the Vienna University of Economics and
Business Administration in 1996, where she specialized in commercial science
with a focus on advertising and market research.
Amongst her credits, are a number of articles she has published in scientific
magazines as well as a paper on the nonverbal image of politicians and political
parties in the Handbook of political Marketing (Prof. Bruce Newman, SAGE, USA).
Richard Alden
Chief Executive Officer - ONO
Richard Alden
is the Chief Executive Officer of ONO, the largest cable television and telecommunications
operator in Spain.
He joined the company prior to launch in early 1998 and has helped oversee the development of
the business from inception to a company now serving over 1,9 million customers
taking some 3,5 million services.
Richard has worked in the cable industry for over 12 years,
previously in the United Kingdom and in the U.S. He is a UK Chartered Accountant.
ONO is the largest broadband service provider on the Iberian Peninsula, offering
integrated telecommunications, television and broadband Internet services to
businesses and residential customers.
Carl Alloin
Vice President Segment Marketing - Telenet, Belgium
Carl
Alloin joined Telenet in February, 2004, as Sales Director for residential markets.
In 2007, he joined the Telenet marketing department and became responsible for Segment
Marketing. Within this new role, Carl has a full P&L responsibility for the residential
markets as well as product and marketing responsibilities for the different residential segments.
Prior to working for Telenet, in 2003/04 Carl worked for Scarlet Belgium as Director of
the Consumer and SME Business Unit. From 2001-2003, he worked for Planet Internet as
Director, ISP. From 1999–2001, he worked as Sales Manager, Business to Business,
for KPN Belgium. Prior to working for KPN Belgium, Carl worked from for EUnet Belgium as
Account Manager and Sales & Marketing Manager, 1997–1999.
Carl started his career at Alcatel Telecom doing research and business development
activities on ADSL from 1993–1997.
Carl graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven in 1993 where he obtained
a Master of Applied Sciences and Engineering with specialization in micro-electronics.
Noelia Fernandez Arroyo
General Manager for Products and Services - Yahoo! Iberia
Noelia
Fernandez Arroyo is one of the founders of Yahoo! Iberia and is in charge of the company's product
and services offering, along with the definition and coordination of the company's strategy and development.
Prior to joining Yahoo! Noelia worked in New Media Publishing (NMP), an Internet communications consultancy
that she founded and managed herself in Pamplona, Spain. She has also worked as a professor of New
Advertising Media in the Information Business department at the University of Navarra.
Noelia is a graduate in journalism from the University of Navarra and has a Masters in Business Administration
(MA Honours) from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
Jose Ramon Azurmendi
Offer and Acquisition Director - ONO
Jose
Ramon Azurmendi is the Offer and Acquisition Director of ONO (Residential and SME),
the largest cable television and telecommunications operator in Spain.
Jose joined the company's Marketing department in March 2007 to lead
the new offer composed of the best Internet, TV, and convergent voice
in the Spanish market.
Jose Ramon has worked extensively in the Telecommunications and Media industry
across Europe, Asia, Middle East, and Africa as a consultant for Diamond
Cluster and Mercer (currently Oliver Wyman). For more than 9 years, Jose
Ramon has also led projects in the Marketing, Commercial, and Corporate
areas (Marketing plans, strategy plans, turnaround, due diligence, etc.)
for different fixed and mobile operators.
Jose Ramon is an Industrial Engineer and graduated from IESE in 1998 where
he obtained a Master in Business Administration (MBA).
ONO is the largest broadband service provider on the Iberian Peninsula,
offering integrated telecommunications, television, and broadband Internet services
to businesses and residential customers.
Chris Bunyan
Director of Portal Management – Virgin Media
Chris
Bunyan is Director of Portal Management at Virgin Media, the UK's leading supplier of broadband, TV,
mobile and fixed line phone services. Chris is responsible for all aspects of Virgin Media's
portal and online services, including editorial, commercial, applications, advertising,
product development and P&L of what is now a multi-million pound online business.
Many recent initiatives include a strong cross-platform dynamic, linking together TV,
broadband, and mobile. Currently, Chris and his team are launching a new fan-based sports
service to augment the recently acquired FA Premiership football broadband rights. Virginmedia.com is
a leading UK website, attracting more than 12 million users a month.
Previously, Chris was Director of Internet Product Management at ntl, the UK's largest
provider of broadband services at the time. Chris helped grow the broadband access base
from 500,000 to almost two million broadband customers in an intensely competitive market.
During this time, he introduced a range of Internet services including a new portal,
new email services, value-added security services—and was the first to package premium
content, including music services, with broadband access.
Prior to that, Chris was Sales and Marketing Director, and then Publishing Director, at
Television Education Network, an independent producer of television and multimedia
services outputting approximately 300 programs a year.
Federico Cesconi
Director of Customer Insights and Retention - Cablecom
As
Director of Customer Insights and Retention, Federico Cesconi is responsible for the development
and implementation of customer insight best practice across Cablecom.
Federico joined Cablecom Ticino in 2000 as Marketing Manager. In 2002 he moved into
the headquarter in Zürich promoted as Head of Customer Information Management.
He was appointed to his current position in January 2005.
Cesconi started his activity in marketing analytics at one of Southern
Switzerland's leading Internet Service Providers—Tinet SA. As Marketing Manager,
he was responsible for database marketing and data mining back in 1996.
Cesconi and his team were recognized with the North American Insight
Award 2006 in Data Mining, and the European Insight Award 2007.
Federico Cesconi earned his PhD at the University of Milano, and his MBA at
the University of Wales.
Stephen Cole
Al Jazeera English Presenter (News - London)
Stephen
Cole is a veteran of international television news having fronted Sky News, CNNI, BBC World
and BBC News 24 for the past 17 years.
His previous position was senior presenter with BBC World in London and as
host of their Click Online programme.
As a widely recognised face of international television news with 26
years of experience in the field of journalism, Stephen has developed from newspaper
reporter to television producer/reporter, first with the BBC's news and current
affairs show Nationwide and from there to ITN.
Ernie Cormier
Managing Director Group Strategy & Corporate Development - Virgin Media
Ernie
Cormier is the Chief Commercial Officer for Virgin Media, responsible for sales, marketing,
brand, product, content acquisition and related functions for the consumer
division of the company. Prior to holding this position, he was Senior Vice
President, Corporate Strategy at the company since joining in January, 2006.
Mr. Cormier brings more than 24 years of experience in a full range of functions
related to digital products, systems, and services in various media and platforms.
Prior to his position at Virgin Media, Mr. Cormier served as Vice President, Product
Management at Nextel Communications in the United States, focusing on convergence strategy
and solutions, business and in-building solutions, WLAN and related technologies, embedded
solutions, delivery platforms (current and next generation), and emerging opportunities.
This included development and marketing of product and service offerings, go-to-market
planning and execution, and related product management functions. Mr. Cormier was also
responsible for all business development and contract negotiations for Nextel's Products &
Services organization, as well as all partner and developer programs.
Before joining Nextel in September of 2001, Mr. Cormier served as Chief Technology
Officer and Executive Vice President of Marketing for TradeOut, Inc., an Internet-based,
business-to-business asset management marketplace providing public and private exchanges for
Fortune 1000 sellers and buyers.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Cormier started and/or managed several companies and divisions
providing content development and publishing, engineering, product development, and design
services in media and software. Additionally, he has fulfilled various roles in sales,
sales management, business development, product development, engineering, and marketing.
Mr. Cormier holds a BS degree in Controls Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic
Institute, and has completed certificate and related training at Georgetown and Harvard business schools.
Duane Dick
Senior Partner - Sand Cherry Associates
Prior to
becoming a Senior Partner at Sand Cherry Associates, Duane was the Executive Director
for the internal strategic consulting group (Market Strategy Development) for both AT&T
Broadband and MediaOne Group, where he was responsible for developing the market and
business strategies for domestic and international ventures in video, broadband
telephony, and high-speed internet access.
Most recently, Duane has led Sand Cherry project teams to develop and launch DVR/HDDVR
services for a number of U.S. operators, launch alternative sales and distribution channels
to drive subscriber growth in the Hispanic market, design retention and save strategies
to reduce video customer disconnects, and develop competitive market strategies for
high-speed internet service. In addition, Duane directs Sand Cherry's efforts with
the CTAM Telephony Committee to help the industry develop more effective marketing
and sales tactics for its telephony products. Duane was also a 2004 recipient of the
Cable & Telecommunications Association of Marketing (CTAM) industry award for leading
several successful cross-industry retail initiatives.
Additionally, he has managed and directed teams assisting broadband companies in
Europe and Asia. Duane received his MBA from the McDonough School of Business, Georgetown
University, and an MA in International Relations from the US Naval Postgraduate School.
Duane is conversant in Japanese and is an avid skier and golfer.
Richard Gizbert

Richard
Gizbert has a long and accomplished career as a foreign correspondent covering many parts of the globe.
Over the past 25 years, he has covered stories in more than 50 countries on five continents.
Richard spent 11 years with the American network ABC, as one of the network's London-based foreign correspondents.
During this time he covered conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, Chechnya, Somalia and Rwanda.
He has extensive experience in the Middle East, having covered Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian occupied territories and Israel.
Richard has also reported on earthquakes in India, the Kursk submarine disaster off Russia, development stories in Africa, and countless stories in western Europe.
His experience provides Richard with the kind of perspective Al Jazeera values in its correspondents.
His travels and reporting experience make him the ideal host for The Listening Post, Al
Jazeera's weekly programme that focuses on the media.
Prior to being based in London, Richard worked as a correspondent-producer for
CJOH-TV in Canada, where he was CJOH's parliamentary correspondent, responsible for national
political coverage.
For his reporting of a bus hostage situation at the Canadian houses of parliament,
he received the National Award for Breaking News Coverage.
Jill Grinda

Grinda was appointed Director of Worldwide Distribution of EuroNews. Ms. Grinda has
twenty years of international sales, distribution, marketing, public relations and journalism
experience working with major multinational media and financial corporations,
government and statutory authorities.
From May 2005, Ms. Grinda was Regional Director Distribution for Al Jazeera English.
Based in Paris, she was responsible for distribution of the channel throughout Europe and Asia.
From 2000 to 2005, she was Regional Director Southern and Eastern Europe
and Benelux for CNBC Europe in Paris.
Working between 1995 and 1999 for Bloomberg LP, Ms. Grinda started as Communications
Director then Multimedia Distribution Director Asia-Pacific in Sydney before being TV
Production Director for Bloomberg TV in Paris.
Ms. Grinda was Public Affairs Manager for American Express International
in Sydney from 1993-1995 and TV Publicist for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation from
1992-1993. She came to France in 1989 as a freelance PR consultant and journalist for Australian
magazines and newspapers. Ms. Grinda started her career in Melbourne as Public
Relations officer of the International Wool Secretariat.
Born in Perth, Australia, Ms. Grinda has a Masters in Arts Management (EAC Paris), a
Certificate in Financial Markets (Securities Institute of Australia, Sydney) and a
Diploma of Business Studies, Communication (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology).
Ms. Grinda additionally holds positions on the Boards of CTAM Europe and the
French chapter of ABIE (Australian Business in Europe).
Jen Grogono
Co-Founder & Chief Content Officer - ON Networks
Jen
Grogono is focused on defining and bringing to market new forms of video and TV programming for
ON Networks. As co-founder and Chief Content Officer, she oversees the development of and
marketing for the company's original, high-definition TV shows, which are created through
ON's exclusive ProSourcer Studio and available to consumers when and where they want
to view it -- across multiple digital platforms, including the Internet, digital cable,
IPTV, and various mobile and gaming devices.
Over the past 15 years, Ms. Grogono has worked with a wide range of consumer companies, public
service organizations and technology firms, specializing in integrated communications and strategic
marketing. Before joining ON Networks, Ms. Grogono was vice president of corporate marketing at
Motive, Inc., a leader in the broadband management space, where she managed public relations,
marketing communications and sales enablement, pre- and post-IPO. During her tenure with Motive, Ms.
Grogono also founded the telecommunications industry publication – Broadband 2.0.
Previously Ms. Grogono was vice president and co-general manager of the Austin office of Porter
Novelli, an Omnicom-owned worldwide communications firm. Before joining Porter Novelli, Ms. Grogono
was the director of marketing at Austin Ventures-backed start-up Kurion, a digital content and
application syndication company that was sold to iSyndicate and, later, YellowBrix. Before Kurion,
Ms. Grogono established the Austin office of Lois Paul & Partners, a top national technology
PR firm now part of Fleishman-Hillard.
Ms. Grogono holds a Bachelors degree from Boston College, and currently resides in Austin, Texas
with her husband and three children.
Judit Grosz
Executive Director of Marketing and Sales - UPC
Judit
Grosz joined UPC in 2000. During the past six years at the telecommunications company
she worked in several areas of the marketing department. She started as Director of
Marketing Communications, then became Regional Marketing Director.
Before her work at UPC, Judit was Marketing Director at the HVG publishing house and,
before that, an account manager at the Publicis advertising agency. After getting her
degree in Economics she also completed an MBA course.
Brad Gunn
Managing Director of Marketing & Sales - UPC Broadband
Brad
Gunn is responsible for developing the strategic direction of UPC's marketing and
sales program. Working with UPC's operating units, Brad oversees the development
and implementation of the company's product, marketing, acquisition, and retention
programs, as well as the ongoing evaluation and improvement of such programs
to ensure the company achieves it business objectives.
From 1998–2003, Brad was in Tokyo as VP of Marketing & Sales, Liberty Media.
He supervised all aspects of marketing, sales and product development for Liberty Media' Japanese
affiliate, Jupiter Telecommunications. Jupiter is Japan's largest cable broadband company
providing cable television, digital telephone, and high-speed Internet services.
From 1997–1998 Brad was based in London as the Director of Sales Strategy for Consumer
Markets, Cable and Wireless. Responsible for developing the sales strategy with supporting
budget, sales organization and implementation plan for the company's newly established
Consumer Markets Division. Integrated the residential sales organizations of the four
merged companies to form CWC into one cohesive organization covering all aspects of direct
sales, telemarketing, retail sales and sales administration.
From 1989–1996, Brad was VP of Marketing and Sales at Bell Cablemedia & Jones International;
working in England and Spain. He developed and oversaw the implementation of residential
marketing and sales programs in the company's English and Spanish cable operations.
In this role worked directly with Pacific Telesis, US West, Bell Canada, and NYNEX
Communications.
From 1981–1989 Brad was with Jones Intercable where he worked in a number of key
marketing and product roles as the company grew from 150,000 subscribers to more than 1.2 million.
Isabelle Hen-Wollmarker
VP Marketing, AETN International
Isabelle
Hen-Wollmarker is Vice President of Marketing, AETN International. In this role, she is
responsible for developing international brand strategy, overseeing international trade and
consumer marketing, and coordinating all international trade shows and channel launches.
Ms. Hen-Wollmarker is responsible for marketing AETN channel brands, The History
Channel, The History Channel HD, The Biography Channel, Crime & Investigation Network and A&E
Network internationally. She serves as primary liaison between AETN and marketing personnel
of AETN's international affiliates and partners, working with the local teams
to maintain the integrity of the brand across markets.
Prior to joining A&E Television Networks, Ms. Hen-Wollmarker was Project Manager for
Premiere, the leading German pay-TV service, where she developed and managed consumer loyalty
and communications programs. Before that, she held marketing positions at L'Oreal and Cartier.
Born in France and fluent in French, German, and English, Isabelle Hen-Wollmarker obtained
her MBA from Essec in Paris. She also studied at Universitaet Mannheim, in Germany and at University
of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in the U.S. Ms. Hen-Wollmarker is based in New York City
where she resides with her husband and two children.
David Hicks

David
Hicks is the CEO of Mulberry House Consulting, a specialist Consultancy advising clients worldwide
on how to drive customer-centered change. David has led the business from startup and
Mulberry House is now retained by SVPs and CEOs to advise some of EMEA's and North America's largest organizations on customer experience and customer-centered change.
For over 20 years David has been involved in designing and deploying customer experience programs
in large service organizations. As a board-level executive he was responsible for the most
recognized brand in the UK (The Royal Mail) and led the design and deployment of a service
experience specification on a global level. As a member of the board, David transformed
SSL (an outsourced customer management business) into the #1 position in the UK by
focusing on how to define and deliver the client's customer experience using outsourced staff.
David has personally led board-level strategic and deployment advice engagements on
customer-centered change in the telco, financial services, auto, retail, publishing and
technology sectors. "David has a unique blend of leading this type of change himself
in large organizations and also the consulting perspective from over 100 client
engagements to practically advise what works and what doesn't," says Nalini
Indorf Kaplan, SVP Global Customer Experience, MasterCard.
David has a MBA from the IBM Business School at Southampton University in the UK
and a postgraduate diploma in Strategic Marketing at Harvard. A respected and accomplished
speaker and writer on CRM and Customer Experience, David has spoken in EMEA and
North America. His most recent book is Customer Experience Transformation – A Senior Executives Guide.
Dennis Hodges
Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Content Strategy, UPC Central Europe Group
Dennis Hodges
has been with UPC since May of 2001, leading strategic and creative marketing,
sales and content initiatives throughout the region. Hodges' communications-based
career began in 1981 with United Cable Television in corporate and regional
marketing management positions. After a number of years as General Manager of
cable television operations, Hodges left cable for the competitive local exchange
carrier (CLEC) Teleport Communications Group where he developed and managed the
Omaha market. Later Hodges founded Nebraska Technology and Telecommunications,
a CLEC that targeted businesses in secondary markets.
Immediately prior to UPC, Hodges was a management strategy consultant
working with CEOs on marketing and management strategy issues.
Hodges holds a Ph.B. from Southwestern College and
a M.M. from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern
University. He is currently Chairman of CTAM Europe, the European cable
industry's marketing association, which he helped found.
Angela Knewitz
Brand Innovation Director - MetaDesign, Berlin
Angela
Knewitz has been with Corporate Design firm MetaDesign, Berlin, for the last
three years. She has been responsible for the brand consulting practice, working for a
wide range of corporate clients—Automotive, IT, Business Services, and
Retail and Consumer products. Her main focus is developing strategic brand platforms to
for corporate, product or service brands and help transferring these into meaningful visible
identities as well as into internal brand commitment programs.
As newly appointed Brand Innovation Director, Angela's responsibility is to broaden
the MetaDesign scope to include innovative consultancy and design services to address
client's needs in putting their brand at the centre stage of corporate strategy.
After graduating in Business and Law, Angela rather atypically started in Advertising,
working as an Account Executive for Leo Burnett and, later, J. Walter Thompson,
mainly for FMCGs like Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Kraft Jacobs Suchard (Philip Morris),
etc. After six years in advertising, Angela switched to brand strategy and design
consulting, with a focus on helping to connect brand strategy to product language,
mainly for the Automotive sector, DIY tools, and household appliances.
Angela was founder and managing partner of London-based brand strategy consultancy,
Brandware Partners, which she successfully merged with MetaDesign in 2005. Angela has
lectured from time-to-time as well as published articles on brand strategy and product design.
For the past 10 years, MetaDesign has been Germany's leading corporate design firm.
Major clients include Audi, Volkswagen, The German Government, Infineon, Siemens,
DHL, and Kabel Deutschland.
Tony Jones
Head of Creative & Communications - National Geographic Channel
As
Head of Creative & Communications, Tony Jones oversees National Geographic Channel's brand
and consumer communications across digital and traditional off-air media.
Based in National Geographic Channel Europe (NGCE)'s HQ in London, Jones'
team supplies digital marketing and print media for 32 of its global territories.
Jones joined National Geographic Channel in Hong Kong in 2001, as Creative Director
for its Global Interactive Development Project. The project was responsible for
initiating the launch of multi-language websites in multiple global territories.
Jones graduated in Architecture in Manchester and continued his postgraduate studies
in London with an MA in Computing in Architecture. He then went on to an architectural
practice in Paris before setting up a London-based digital media consultancy.
Ivo Lochtman
VP Content - UPC Netherlands
As
VP of Content, Ivo Lochtman is currently responsible for all content matters for UPC
in The Netherlands with a focus on Digital TV, VoD, HD, and
interactive services. In addition, Ivo oversees analog and Internet-based content.
Previously Ivo held the position of Director, Video Services for UPC, leading the
deployment of Digital TV across Europe with a strong focus on product development.
Previously, Ivo has held various positions in the Pay TV industry at Nethold,
including marketing manager, business development, and running a NVOD service.
Yossi Lubaton
V.P. Marketing and Business Development - HOT Communication Systems
Yossi Lubaton is Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for HOT Communication Systems.
Prior to HOT Communication Systems, Mr. Lubaton was Vice President Marketing for CELLCOM.
Before joining CELLCOM, he was Chief Executive Officer of Burger Ranch from 1999 to 2004.
In 1995, Mr. Lubaton joined Paz Oil Company where he was Vice President Business Development.
Mr. Lubaton was an advisor to the Minister of Energy from 1993 to 1995.
He received his B.A. in Economics and Business Administration from Hebrew University, and EMBA degree from Kellogg Recanati Northwestern and Tel Aviv University.
Terry Mader
VP Web & Online Strategy, UPC Broadband
Terry
Mader is VP of Web & Online Strategy at UPC Broadband. He is responsible for the company's overall
web strategy, including online marketing, online support, web services, and innovation. In his current
role Terry is developing a new vision of how UPC can leverage the web to grow and strengthen
our core cable business, as well as grow and innovate via the web.
Before leading the Web & Online Team, Terry spent two years in the Management Team of UPC
Netherlands, where he was VP Business Development, with a primary responsibility to drive the
launch of the new DTV strategy.
Before joining UPC Broadband, Terry worked 5 years at Chello Broadband, most recently as VP Strategic
Marketing and Product. Before joining Chello, he worked in Investment Banking at ING Barings media practice.
Terry studied Commerce at Curtin University, Australia, and Business Strategy at Erasmus University,
Rotterdam. He is Australian, and married with 2 children.
DK
Founder, MediaSnackers
DK was the
UK's first and only Corporate Youth Officer and has had many roles, but his
passion for working with young people (and youth professionals) has been his
main focus for the past 8 years.
With an educational background in communications and media, plus a professional background
in local government, DK launched MediaSnackers in June 2006.
DK is also the founder of Phatgnat, a consultancy which creates youth projects
for brands and business, with a focus on linking in community causes.
The moniker DK is derived the initials of his given name and has been a
nickname since childhood. MediaSnackers is DK's "bat and ball"—do you fancy a game?
Nimrod Kovacs
Executive Chairman of UPC and chellomedia Central and Eastern Europe Group, Liberty Global, Inc.
As
Executive Chairman of the Central and Eastern Europe Group for UPC and chellomedia, Nimrod is
responsible for the cable, DTH satellite and TV channel operations in Hungary, Poland, The Czech
Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Romania. UPC and chellomedia are the main European subsidiaries
of Liberty Global, Inc., the largest broadband cable operator outside of the U.S. in terms of subscribers.
Early Career
After escaping from Communist Hungary, Nimrod moved to the U.S. in 1972 where he settled in
Colorado. He earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Colorado in 1976 and a
Masters Degree from the American Graduate School of International Management in 1977. Nimrod then
worked in New York City for major advertising agencies such as DDB, Grey, and WRG with clients including
American Airlines, Hershey Foods, Ralston, General Foods, Miles Laboratories (Alka Seltzer), and
New York State (the "I Love New York/Made in New York" campaigns).
Programming and Cable
In 1982, Nimrod joined the cable industry, working for United Cable Television Corporation
in Denver as Director of Marketing and later as VP of Marketing, Programming and Communications.
These programming activities also included investments in Discovery Channel, QVC, E Entertainment,
and other channels and related ventures. In 1987, Nimrod became involved in international cable by
acquiring, in partnership with United Artists, the Croydon cable system in the United Kingdom which
evolved into Telewest.
Between 1987 and 1989, Nimrod also managed United Artists Programming based in London. With the
formation of United Artists Entertainment in 1989, Nimrod became responsible for strategic planning and
reported directly to the CEO. At the same time, he became an investor/partner in the cable companies
United International Holdings, Inc. (UIH) and UnitedGlobalcom (UGC) which evolved into Liberty Global,
which is now UPC's parent company. Nimrod worked around the globe on cable and programming
projects for UIH/UGC.
Business Leadership in Hungary and Central and Eastern Europe
After regime change in Hungary, in 1991 Nimrod returned home and established the Kabelkom
group of companies in partnership with Time Warner and US West. Within a year, Kabelkom became the
largest cable television company in Hungary. In 1998, the merger of Kabelkom and Kabeltel, the
second largest Hungarian cable television group, resulted in the creation of UPC Magyarország.
Other rapid regional acquisitions have resulted in a more than 10-fold increase in the

Dr. Abe Peled

obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Technion-Israel
Institute of Technology in 1967 and 1971 respectively, and his MA and PhD
degrees from Princeton University in 1972 and 1974. His PhD thesis was
on novel implementation techniques in digital signal processing.
Dr. Peled is a Fellow of the IEEE; between 1989 and 1993 he served on
the US National Research Council’s Board on Computer Science and Telecommunications.
In addition, he served on numerous advisory boards and councils, among
them: New York State Centre for Advanced Technology, Princeton University
EE Dept., DARPA ISAT, USRA.
In addition, Dr. Peled holds four patents, is the co-author (with Prof. Bede Liu)
of a book on digital signal processing, published by John Wiley & Sons and
which has been translated into Russian and Chinese. He has authored numerous
scientific publications and was the invited author of the lead article in
the in October 1987 special issue of Scientific American on the future of computing.
From 1967 to 1971, Abe was a technical officer in the Israeli Army Signal Corps.
In 1974 Abe joined IBM Research Division at the Thomas J Watson Research Centre to
work on advanced digital signal processing technologies. In 1978 he was named Manager
of Signal Processing. In 1980 Abe moved to the IBM San Jose Research Laboratory
(now Almaden) where he was promoted to Functional Manager of the Computer Science area.
In 1983 he returned and was promoted to IBM Research Division Director of Technical
Planning and Controls with staff responsibility for the integration of the
technical and financial plan of the division.
In 1985, Dr. Peled was
named IBM Research Division Vice President, Systems and Software with functional
responsibility for all research and advanced development in these areas
across IBM Research’s laboratories world-wide (Almaden, Zurich, Tokyo and Haifa).
He also had line management responsibility for the systems, software and
application areas at the Watson Research Centre, with over 800 professionals.
In this capacity he made major contributions to getting new technologies into
the marketplace, among them RS/6000, SP2, APPN, PVS and Data Explorer.
His novel approach was featured in the cover story of the New York Times Business
Section on 12/8/91.
In September 1993 Dr. Peled joined Elron Electronic Industries Ltd. in Haifa,
Israel as Senior Vice President for Business Development. He also served on

Chip Express. In addition, he initiated and led Elron's strategic thrust into

Previously, Chad worked for ntl:Telewest as Director of Consumer Internet where he was responsible for

Prior to his role within the merged ntl:Telewest, Chad was Director of Product Strategy and Development for
Telewest, responsible for defining and implementing Telewest's overall product strategy for its Consumer
Division. The key products were television, telephony, Internet, cross-platform applications, and content, across
which Chad identified, evaluated, prioritised, and delivered new products to market. Chad was also responsible
for Telewest's market research and competitive intelligence functions.
Chad's career in the telecommunications industry began in 1994 as the new technologies business
analyst for Cyberstar, with responsibility for evaluating business plans of Internet and
media start-ups seeking venture capital funding. From 1995, Chad served as general manager
of Cyberstar, a start-up broadband service provider, in New Zealand. He then moved to
Marketing and Business Development Manager for US Cyber, a subsidiary of Cyberstar and an
ISP with operations in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S. before its sale
in 1996. After the sale of US Cyber, Chad joined the business development and strategy
team at Corning, the world's largest manufacturer of fibre optic cable, where he was responsible

In 1998, Chad matriculated into the Harvard Business School, and has published two articles
with Harvard Business School Press on emerging Internet business models. After graduating,

zero to 1 million customers and from £0 in annual revenues to $165 million, while establishing

Ashley Stockwell

White is General Manager of Sony Pictures Television International's (SPTI) high energy, general
entertainment channel, AXN, in Central Europe. Based in Budapest, White is responsible for managing AXN's
distribution, programming, commercial sales, marketing, and technical operations as well as
expanding channel distribution in six core markets: Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia,
Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria—reaching well over 8 million households in the region.
In 2006, White launched two other AXN branded channels in the region: AXN Crime and AXN Sci-Fi,
both of which he continues to oversee. He is also responsible for the newly launched animé
channel from SPTI, Animax, which now airs in Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
White was previously the C.O.O. of one of Australia's top cable channels, TV1. He was
instrumental in transforming the channel into Australia's number one general entertainment
channel on the subscription television platforms. He began his business experience with

At SPTI, White recently introduced the AXN Short Film Festival, aimed at offering viewers

Since 1992, Chris has specialized in Sales and Marketing and General Management in
the telecommunications and broadband industry and has held a variety of cable marketing
positions, including:
Commercial Director for GelreVision, a small cable operator which was
acquired by UPC in 1999. As director of the Sale and Marketing team, Chris was
end-responsible for all commercial activities including the launch of Broadband Internet
and Digital Television.
Business Line Manager, Internet for UPC NL, responsible for Marketing and
Sales of residential Internet in the Netherlands, and growing the Broadband internet subscriber base.
Director, Marketing and Sales Western Europe, for chello broadband, responsible
for the residential chello broadband Internet products in the Netherlands, France, and
Belgium working with the local UPC marketing teams. Chris was responsible for
successfully hitting the EBITDA and customer growth targets in these markets every year.
Director, Customer Lifecycle Management for UPC Broadband. Responsible for development
of CLM programs throughout the UPC markets in Europe in order to reduce churn, increase
Customer Loyalty and increase Customer Value.
Before joining UPC, Chris worked in the Advertising industry for almost 2 years,
starting his career at KPN.
Theresa Wise
Global Director of Digital/Internet, Accenture Marketing Sciences
Theresa
has worked extensively in the media and entertainment industry. She currently heads up
Accenture Global Digital Practice effort—which evaluates and optimizes clients' investments
in digital activities. Previously, Theresa has led projects in the areas of digital
and interactive television (including video-on-demand and interactive advertising)
and broadband content (especially games).
Theresa has worked across Europe, Japan, and the US for global cable companies, media
conglomerates, public service broadcasters, and commercial broadcasters.
Theresa also comments extensively across all media on developments in digital
television, sports rights, advertising markets, the music industry and publishing industries.
Nicolette Wuring
VP Customer Care Europe - UPC Broadband
Nicolette
Wuring joined UPC Broadband, the European division of Liberty Global, in 2004 as
Vice President Customer Care for 11 countries across Europe.
At UPC Nicolette is responsible for the strategic shift from a traditional customer service focus
on cost containment to servicing the customer base as an asset for increasing revenue.
Nicolette has a long, successful history both in the field of Customer Operations
and within the cable business in Europe. She has been responsible for Customer Operations and
Direct Marketing, having launched services like Pay-per-View, Pay-TV, High Speed Data, Cable
Telephony, and e-services, as well as mergers and reorganizations in various (cable) companies in
Europe and the USA.
