The mass distribution of media is undergoing the most profound changes in its history. On the one hand ubiquitous broadband enables new competitors to challenge the traditional gatekeepers, cable and satellite, and on the other hand the appeal of the traditional mass media popular channels is being diluted and fragmented into millions of entertainment sources ranging from user-generated content to well-financed and professionally produced narrow interest channels. Consumers will have wider choices and fierce competition for customers will drive down prices and margins.
