Chad Raube
Investment Partner, Dawn Capital


In addition to serving as the Chairman of CTAM Europe, Chad is a partner with Dawn Capital, which invests in the technology, media and telecoms sector. Chad both serves on the investment committee and works closely with Dawn's portfolio companies to add value on operations and marketing issues.

Prior to Dawn, Chad was Chief Commercial Officer for FiberNet, a subsidiary of the private equity firm Warburg Pincus, with operations in Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ukraine. His responsibilities included marketing, sales, product management /development and management of the customer experience.

Previously, Chad worked for Virgin Media as Director of Consumer Internet where he was responsible for leading the UK's largest broadband ISP, managing a customer base of 3 million, and generating annual revenues in excess of $1 billion.

Prior to his role with Virgin Media (merger of NTL and Telewest), Chad was Director of Product Strategy and Development for Telewest, responsible for defining and implementing Telewest's overall product strategy for its Consumer Division. The key products within this remit were television, telephony, Internet, cross-platform applications and content. Chad was also responsible for Telewest’s market research and competitive intelligence functions.

Chad's career in the telecommunications industry began in 1994 as the new technologies business analyst for Cyberstar, with responsibility for evaluating business plans of Internet and media start-ups seeking venture capital funding. From 1995, Chad served as general manager of Cyberstar, a start-up broadband service provider, in New Zealand. He then moved to Marketing and Business Development Manager for US Cyber, a subsidiary of Cyberstar and an ISP with operations in the Midwest and Northeast regions of the US before its sale in 1996. After the sale of US Cyber, Chad joined the business development and strategy team at Corning, the world's largest manufacturer of fibre optic cable, where he was responsible for identifying acquisition opportunities to grow the business by $1 billion in revenues over two years.

In 1998, Chad matriculated into the Harvard Business School, and has published two articles with Harvard Business School Press on emerging Internet business models. After graduating, Chad joined MediaOne Group as a manager with the market strategy group. In this capacity he advised senior management at MediaOne (at the time the 3rd largest cable company in the US, which was subsequently acquired by Comcast) on a variety of marketing, strategy and operations issues. Chad later focused his work within MediaOne on its high-speed internet subsidiary — Road Runner High Speed Online — one of the world's first broadband portals and ISP.

Chad's last assignment at MediaOne was a secondment to Telewest (a MediaOne subsidiary) where he was responsible for the launch of blueyonder broadband. Chad joined Telewest permanently in June 2000 and had been responsible for managing the Internet business unit up until September 2004 before joining the Senior Leadership Team as Director of Product Strategy & Development. During this time, the blueyonder Internet portfolio grew from 0 to circa 1M customers and £0 in annual revenues to circa $165M, while establishing industry leading market share and customer satisfaction.

Chad has been named one of the "100 Most Influential People in the UK Internet over the past 10 Years" by NOP and E-consultancy and one the of "Top 50" executives in European broadband and pay TV by Cable and Satellite Magazine. He has been a featured speaker at industry events on the key strategic and marketing issues facing the industry and has appeared as a commentator on Sky TV and the BBC.

Chad holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and BA in International Relations from Carleton College.
